What to Expect after Your Hair Transplant Surgery?
Hair transplant surgeries are gaining popularity. Thanks to the awareness created by media and celebrities, hair transplant surgeries like Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Hair Transplants (FUT) have become trendy among ordinary people.
It is very important to clean the blood clots on the scalp after surgery. FUE patients may also experience some oozing from their follicles. Both FUE and FUT patients are advised to take shower the morning after the hair transplant surgery. By this time they can remove the bandage, and may not wear it further. A gentle shower with a special shampoo is prescribed. The shower will clean the blood stains and the oozing on their scalp and help open up the air vents of the follicles. In most cases, patients are advised to take two showers daily. They should shampoo the hair so gently that it does not cause dislodging of the transplanted hair. In normal cases, the follicular grafts will not be dislodged as they are fixed deep into the recipient area. During the first week, patients are not allowed to comb or brush their hair.
After about ten days of hair transplant surgery, patients can resume their normal shampooing, brushing and even haircut. Ten days are sufficient for the grafts to be firmly fixed on the scalp. In normal cases, patients can opt for hair dyeing, four weeks after the hair transplant.
To get the better results, patients must also follow healthy food and lifestyle habits. Patients are restricted from taking alcohol at least for three days after surgery. They should abstain from smoking at least for two weeks. They should refrain from strenuous exercise for several weeks following FUT or FUE procedure. When going out, they should wear a hat. Sunscreen can be used after two weeks.
The growth of the newly transplanted hair becomes visible from around 10th week. It becomes long enough to be groomed in about six months, and in one year it will attain full growth. Immediately after the transplant, patients may experience minor hair loss in the transplanted area; however, this is considered as a normal phenomenon, and the hair will start re-growing normally in a matter of days, according to Bernstein Medical – Center for Hair Restoration.
