'Beauty From the Heart' Initiative Helps Children Suffering from Alopecia

AQUA Salon Spa, Raleigh's first pure water concept salon spa, announced it is launching the “Beauty From the Heart” initiative to help fund hair prosthesis for children.

The initiative that runs through the month of December appeals to the public for donations to help a child pay for the cost of a hair prosthesis. Roszetta Pringle, Med-Hair Loss Specialist, is joining this fund-raising initiative to urge public contribute for this great cause.

As part of this initiative, AQUA has committed a portion of the proceeds from client services in December to help the fund. The spa has joined hands with various community partners to identify and help the deserving young children and teens.

'Giving back to the community is important, and we are committed,' say officials at AQUA Salon Spa. The efforts of the community will bear fruit as it aims to enhance both inner and outer beauty of individuals, restore self-esteem and inspire hope. A number of local businesses also have graciously supported Beauty from the Heart by devoting time, services and products to recipients.

Alopecia (hair loss) in children can occur due to a number of reasons. Most cases of alopecia in children result from serious medical conditions such as diabetes, lupus, burns, medical scarring and chemotherapy. The trauma associated with the illness, combined with the emotional devastation that occurs when they lose hair, is inexplicable. Young children, especially teens, find it really hard to cope with the stigma associated with hair loss.

Adrianna, a teenager who lost hair due to a medical condition, was recently helped by Roszetta at Aqua Salon Spa. Roszetta, Aqua Salon and community partner Adore Boutique in Raleigh, provided Adrianna with a complete solution to baldness by offering hair prosthesis, style, manicure, pedicure and a beautiful dress.

Christmas is about caring and sharing. It’s the right time to launch charity initiatives. In a bizarre but noble charity initiative, Ottawa County Administrator Al Vanderberg shaved his mustache that he preserved for more than 25 years, and County Commission Chairman Phil Kuyers shaved his head that he had never shaved in his lifetime for raising funds for charity.

The two ended parting with their hair at the annual county Christmas party, as a result of a penny drive competition among departments that raised more than $2,700 for local charities.

Vanderberg had agreed to give up his mustache if employees raised more than $1,000 while Kuyers had promised he would shave his head if they manage to raise more than $2,000.
