Treating Hair Loss Problems with Yoga

In the fast paced, competitive and stressful world we live in today - its no surprise that the number of people suffering from hair loss issues is on the rise. While numerous factors like genes, illness and hormones can play a role in  hair loss there are also things like maltreatment of the scalp and locks and being overly stressed as well as eating a poor diet that can contribute to hair loss.

for those of us who suffer from this type of non permanent hair loss, there are things we can do to improve the condition of our hair and reverse the ill effects. Along with ditching your harsh-bristled comb and choosing more vegetables and fruits in your diet, think about taking up a yoga class because it can be your solution to cure hair loss.

A recent Health.India article looked at the various ways yoga can be of assistance for those with hair loss issues and walked readers through some of the poses they should try to combat hair loss.

One yoga move discussed, that seems to be the most commonly known was the, “Adho Mukho Svanasana” pose. This is also known more commonly as the downward facing dog and involves moving from a flat position on your belly into an inverted “V” position.

This move not only helps to relieve stress in the hamstrings but, according to the article, is great for hair loss sufferers because it helps to increase circulation in the persons head and face and also stimulated the nerves in the scalp - all critical factors in encouraging the hair follicles to become healthy and grow hair again.

As with any exercise or yoga pose, the person performing the move is encouraged to practice proper breathing. “Kapalbhati Pranayam” is a breathing exercise in yoga where you sit with your spine erect and palms on your knees facing downwards and breathe in and out.

This move is used as a way to help oxygenate your body and strengthen muscles in your stomach and abs. This improved circulation also reaches the scalp to assist with hair growth
