Dr. Mayer received his BA and Medical Degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine, Loma Linda, California. He completed one year surgery residency at Loma Linda and was a member of the LLU School of Medicine Heart Team to Athens Greece.
 
Dr. Mayer completed his residency in Family Practice at Florida Hospital Medical Center and was the Chief of Staff at Florida Hospital in Altamonte Springs. He served several years as Chairman of the Board of South Seminole Community Hospital. He completed his Hair Restoration Fellowship with Dr. Leavitt at Medical Hair Restoration.
 
Dr. Mayer has authored multiple articles in medical journals and magazines. He has presented scientific findings before the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and the American Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. He has also appeared on national television as an expert in the treatment of hair loss. He has authored chapters in "HAIR TRANSPLANT SURGERY" (4th Ed. and 5th Ed; Unger/Shapiro).
 
Dr. Melvin Mayer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. He is an Oral Examiner and is on the Examination Committee of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. He has been President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and is one of the founding members of the American Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. He is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners.
 
In 2004, he won of the Platinum Follicle Award from the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS). The Platinum Follicle Award was presented to Dr Mayer by the ISHRS recognizing outstanding research.
 
Dr. Mayer has written a handful of medical book publications. He has also written dozens of medical and secular journal articles and given even more presentations and lectures.  Dr. Mayer has made many television appearances over the last 15 years. He currently practices at the Bosley Medical surgical office in San Diego.
