James M. Swinehart, M.D. is a board-certified Dermatologist, and has been in private practice in Denver since 1979. He grew up in Fresno, California, where he was valedictorian of his high school class. He attended the University of California at Berkeley and majored in chemistry.
At Creighton University School of Medicine, he ranked third in his class, graduating Cum Laude. During his residency at the University of Colorado, Dr. Swinehart was Chief Resident in Dermatology.
Postgraduate training has included numerous seminars and courses in specialized procedures, including laser surgery, liposuction, hair transplantation, leg vein sclerotherapy, blepharoplasty, and cosmetic surgery.
Professionally, his first love is in the field of hair restoration surgery (micrografting). Dr. Swinehart currently transplants all-follicular units (1-4 hairs each). Another keen interest lies in the field of hairline repair and repair of plug and minigraft transplants.
Dr. Swinehart wrote the "Color Atlas of Hair Restoration Surgery" (Appleton and Lange, 1995) in order to provide detailed photographic sequences of the "nuts and bolts" of hair restoration surgery, as well as to demonstrate his personal philosophy utilizing a mix of scalp reduction surgery and extensive micrografting.
Professional society memberships include the American Academy of Dermatology, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery, and Colorado Dermatologic Society. In addition, Dr. Swinehart founded the Colorado Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
Dr. Swinehart is currently Medical Director of the Colorado Dermatology Center and Hair Loss Clinic of Colorado in Denver, Colorado.
