Michael Cornwell, M.D. graduated from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington D.C. in 1993, four years after receiving his B.A. from the prestigious Yale University. At Howard, Dr. Cornwell served as Anatomy Instructor for the summer in 1990. In 1991, he received the Academic Achievement Award for academic excellence in the first two years of medical curriculum. He was a visiting researcher at the National lnstitute of Health, Cancer Institute, Clinical Pharmacology Branch, Bethesda, during that summer. In 1992, he received the Dr. Claude L. Cowan Pioneer Award for academic excellence, service to the community and to the College of Medicine. In 1993, he received the Dr. Charles R. Drew Surgical Award for outstanding performance in the surgical clerkship and was also accepted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.


Dr. Cornwell completed his Residency in General Surgery at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals in Atlanta and later became Chief Resident. He completed a traveling fellowship in General Surgery at Hospital Dr. Carlos A. Bocalandro in Buenos Aires.
 

Dr. Cornwell joined DeKalb Surgical Associates in Decatur, Georgia in 1999 and became a partner in 2002. At DeKalb, Dr. Cornwell had a broad-based general surgical practice which included breast care, laparoscopic surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, vein care (percutaneous) and laser-based cosmetic procedures. When Dr. Cornwell decided to focus practicing Hair Restoration Surgery, he chose Bosley.


Dr. Michael Cornwell is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS)
