August Spotlight: Hair Loss Awareness

While the main topic of this site is hair loss and the many options and solutions available to those who suffer from hair loss, the month of August is of particular importance because it is National Hair Loss Awareness Month - a time when even those not thinking about hair loss at the moment perhaps, are focusing on the topic even just a bit.

This also makes it a terrific time to highlight those options for both men and women and remind everyone of the facts about medical procedures like hair transplants.

According to reports, hair loss affects more than 50 million men and 30 million women in the U.S. alone. As a result, consumers are spending over $3.5B a year looking for a solution to their hair loss issues.

But how much of this money invested in a cure is actually going toward a solution? Not much according to one board-certified hair restoration physician.

Alan J. Bauman, M.D., found and medical director of Bauman Medical Group warns consumers that many of the miracle pills and potions are not going to work. Even FDA approved topical treatment like minoxidil only works for around 38% of cases - leaving many with no results and empty pockets.

Other more extreme measures like a hair transplant, can also be a poor decision if the patient does not take care in getting to know who their doctor is, what procedure they are going to be using, and how skilled they are in the artistry of hair transplants.

"Hair loss is a treatable medical condition and there's no reason why men or women should should feel 'doomed' to a life of baldness. There are a wide range of scientifically proven preventive and recuperative treatment options available, and these medical options continue to grow. It's important for consumers to find qualified hair restoration specialists and to make sure they're being provided the most up to date treatment options available," Bauman cautioned.
